CAMPRAMAPO
Our History

Founded in New York in 1922, our organization began as a small summer camp dedicated to serving boys facing academic and behavioral challenges. In those early years, the welcoming shores of our first lakeside site provided a safe sanctuary, a place for children to experience joy, friendship, and structured support.

Major milestones include:

  • 1956: We expanded to admit girls, doubling our capacity and enriching our community.
  • 1985: Introduced our first school-based workshops, training educators in positive behavior supports.
  • 1998: Transitioned to year-round programming, adding day camps, retreats, and early learning services.
  • 2003: Adopted our current name to reflect the breadth of our offerings beyond summer camp.
  • 2016: Launched a formal partnership with the NYC Department of Education, bringing our proven strategies into urban schools.

Our Vision & Values

We envision a world where neurodiversity is celebrated, where every child feels included and valued, and where schools, families, and communities work hand-in-hand to support emotional well-being and lifelong success. By modeling empathy, respect, and resilience, we aim to shift cultural expectations so that all young people receive the encouragement and resources they deserve.

  • Inclusion:We believe every child belongs. Our programs are designed to honor individual differences and foster a sense of genuine community.
  • Empowerment: We equip participants, families, and professionals with the skills and confidence they need to succeed—today and tomorrow.
  • Integrity: We hold ourselves to the highest standards of safety, transparency, and ethical stewardship in all we do.
  • Innovation: Through ongoing research and feedback, we continually refine our methods, ensuring we deliver the most effective, evidence-based practices.
  • Collaboration: We partner with schools, families, funders, and fellow nonprofits, knowing that collective effort creates lasting change.
